Sun Safety Tips

Absolutely yes! Sun exposure causes serious damage. It is important for you to know that the various creams do not effectively block the carcinogenic rays of the sun! Dermatologists in Israel and around the world recommend sunscreen fabrics as a main line of defense for the skin while outdoors. The importance of using radiation-blocking fabrics can also be read on the Israel Cancer Association website. With the encouragement of the Israel Cancer Association, in 1998 SunWay began marketing swimwear from radiation shields originating in Australia in Israel. In addition to swimwear, SunWay manufactures hats and clothing made of sunscreen fabrics (blockers) for daily protection from sun damage with a maximum protection level of 50UPF+.

The SPF for clothing is calledUPF – Ultra Violet Protective Factor, the highest level of protection is called UPF50+This ensures that the fabric blocks more than 98% of the sun’s dangerous rays to the skin. Fabric receives his defense score after passing 8 tests. Different fabrics differ in the degree of obstruction they provide from projectors For comparison, the protection level of a dry T-shirt is only equivalent to UPF15, when the T-shirt is wet, its protection level drops toUPF8 Only. Fabrics SunWay, rated as protected + 50UPF, maintains its maximum degree of protection even when wet!

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Serviceshas published alarming statistics, according to which one in five Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime

. These alarming figures are leading to an extensive public information campaign this summer in the United States as well, with the aim of strengthening awareness of sun damage and actions to be taken to prevent skin cancer. Articles and information in English can be read at the following links:

The harmful effect of solar radiation begins at an early age and therefore skin protection from the sun should be started from childhood. People who spend a lot of time in the sun and play sports or work outdoors should protect their skin from direct exposure to the sun’s rays, especially if they are light-skinned. It is recommended to wear a wide-brimmed hat that protects the face and nape of the neck and cover the arms and legs with a radiation-blocking cloth. Use ointments that block the penetration of the sun’s rays on areas of the body that remain exposed. It is highly recommended to finish spending time at the beach and pool by 10:00 or start after 17:00. UVA Solar rays with wavelengths of 320-400 nm (billionth of a meter) penetrating deeper into the skin thanUVB rays. They are primarily responsible for wrinkles and premature skin aging. Recent studies show that the radiation ofUVAexacerbates the carcinogenic effect ofUVB radiation and can directly cause skin cancers, including melanoma.

ultraviolet radiationB. Short sunlight at wavelengths 290-320 nm, with greater ability to cause burns thanUVA radiationThese rays are considered the main cause of basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer. They are considered to have a significant impact in causing melanoma, the most malignant skin cancer.

Staying in the sun during the safe hours (until 10:00 in the morning, after 17:00 in the afternoon), in the shade during the day, wearing a hat with maximum protection, protecting the skin with a sun-blocking fabric, applying sunscreen 15 to areas of the body that remain visible, wearing sunglasses that filter sunglasses and no less important – don’t forget to drink plenty of water!

SunWay customers – who love to spend time outdoors – are advised to make sure to diagnose skin cancer and melanoma early, in order to enable life-saving treatment.

Spot Clinic is a specialist dermatology clinic specializing in, among other things, early diagnosis of malignant melanoma and skin cancer and detection of damage from prolonged sun exposure such as spots and precancerous lesions.

The clinic was established and managed byProf

. EstherAzizi

– a researcher and clinician with an international reputation in the fields of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of sun damage to the skin, with a special emphasis on precancerous lesions, suspected moles, skin cancer and malignant melanoma of the skin. Alongside Prof. Azizi, other experts in dermatology work at the clinic. For the early diagnosis of malignant melanoma and skin cancer, the Spot Clinic performs computerized mole mapping – a follow-up method that helps identify a new suspicious mole or a changed mole in subsequent tests and consider the necessary further clarification and treatment. This is an advanced non-invasive technology, based on optical (radiation-free) images performed discreetly in the Spot Clinic.

The treatment of cancerous and pre-cancerous skin tumors was chosen from among several innovative treatment methods, based on the nature and location of the findings. A referral for biopsy or surgical removal of a suspicious lesion is usually requested only in case of doubt, or a pathological diagnosis is required, in order to prevent invasive and unnecessary removal of benign lesion(s).

The Israel Cancer Association recommends that people who spend a lot of time in their cars use protective measures for their skin, such as: wearing a sleeve or long-sleeved shirt, wearing sunglasses, and applying sunscreen to any exposed skin part. Using the aforementioned safeguards will ensure the protection of the passengers in the vehicle while in it and also after exiting it. Do not count on the sun’s radiation being blocked by car windshields and not damaging your skin.

Babies’ thin, delicate skin makes them more vulnerable to harmful sunlight! When traveling in the stroller, when the sun is down, it is recommended to protect babies and children in the stroller with UV-blocking fabric.

Teach children to stay in the shade, to use hats as part of their clothing system (yes, just like they know you don’t leave the house shirtless or pants…) Give a personal example, use them too, have you discovered a suspicious gem? It is recommended that you see a dermatologist to diagnose it.
